Long-term parking at Schiphol: costs and time

The short answer

Without a reservation, a week in P3 Car Park costs €170 and in P3 Garage costs €180. Two weeks cost €275 and €285, three weeks cost €380 and €390. These amounts are fixed: they apply if you drive up without booking in advance.

Different figures apply for time. The shuttle bus from P3 departs every ten minutes and takes five minutes, so that part alone costs five to fifteen minutes. Add to that the time to find a spot, unload, and the walking distance to the stop. Below, for each option, you can see where those minutes are spent. Comparison sites omit this part.

Time budget: from barrier to departure hall

The travel time to Schiphol is listed in every route planner. You have to calculate the time after the barrier yourself. It consists of three parts: finding a spot, waiting for transport, and the ride or walking distance itself. The frequencies and walking distances below come from the airport; the search time is an estimate and is indicated as such.

The airport only mentions short waiting times for P3, without giving a specific number. The ten-minute interval and the five-minute journey time are official; the shuttle bus is free, electric, and runs 24 hours a day. External parking providers do not publish their waiting times, and this is a risk in itself when comparing.

What one, two and three weeks really cost

The rates below apply upon arrival without a reservation. They are composed of a fee for the first 24 hours, a fee for 24 to 48 hours, and then a fixed fee per day. As a result, the first two days weigh more heavily than the rest of your trip.

A roof costs €10 for the whole journey

Terrain and Garage charge the same for the first 24 hours (€57.50) and the same for each subsequent 24-hour period (€15). The difference is solely in the 24 to 48-hour block: €95 versus €105. As a result, the price difference is always €10, whether you stay away for one week or three weeks. The condition is that your car remains below the clearance height of 2.10 metres.

Why P1 is not suitable for long-term parking

P1 has a maximum of 48 hours. If you stay longer, a charge of €100 per extra day applies. This makes a week €615, more than three and a half times the rate of P3 Car Park. For drop-offs and pick-ups, P1 is indeed the quickest choice: €2.60 per 20 minutes, with a two to six-minute walk under a canopy.

Why there is no "with reservation" column here

Regarding reserved parking, the airport writes that prices vary and depend on the parking duration, the time of booking, and availability. So there isn't a fixed price; you'll only see that after entering your date and time. Comparison websites do mention amounts like "from €3.91 per day," but that's a lower limit that is only achievable with a favourable combination of duration, booking time, and demand. A table with those amounts would suggest they apply to your trip.

This page sells nothing and reserves nothing. No parking spaces are offered and no bookings are brokered: you make reservations directly with the airport or with a provider of your choice.

The options side by side

The fastest options have the lowest height limit: P6 Valet allows 2.00 meters, the P3 Garage 2.10 meters, and there is no limit on P3 Terrein. With a roof box or a high bus, only Terrein remains. A motorcycle is not allowed on any of the three, and where you can park a motorcycle at Schiphol is not listed on those product pages.

If you drive electric, only one official option remains. The product pages for P3 Garage and P3 Terrein both state that there are no charging points. P6 Valet does have them, charges up to at least 80 percent, and charges no service fees for this, provided you have your own cable in the car. The airport’s comparison table says the opposite about P3. In case of doubt, rely on the product page and check shortly before departure.

For those for whom this doesn't work

Long-term parking at P3 is cheap and, in most cases, well-organised. In four situations, you'd best avoid it.

• Your flight departs early and you haven't built in any buffer time. Between the barrier and the departure hall there are ten to twenty minutes, and that's on a normal day.
• Your car is taller than 2.10 metres or you have a roof box fitted. In that case, the garage is not an option and only the outdoor parking area remains.
• You're coming by motorbike. This is not allowed with any of the three options.
• You leave an expensive car without documenting its condition. When using valet, you hand over your keys, and without photos, you have nothing to go on afterwards.

What's going wrong and what to do about it

Full during the holiday peak. In the busiest weeks, the lot is full and finding a spot takes longer than the ten minutes you had expected. One documented case took up to fifty minutes between arrival and boarding the shuttle bus. That case is an outlier, but in peak weeks it is a reason to consider a reservation, even though that price is not fixed in advance.

Driving out. The airport treats driving out of P3 as a separate question in its own FAQ, suggesting it doesn't always go smoothly. Access and exit are via license plate or credit card; take the same card you used to enter.

Debited twice. There is a procedure at the airport to claim back duplicate parking charges. Therefore, keep your receipt or transaction statement until the debit is final, even if the amount seems small.

The bus from an external provider is not coming. The official P3 bus runs every ten minutes. For external providers, there is no published frequency and therefore no safety net. Ask in advance what time the last journey departs and what happens if you miss it.

Key Handover Checklist

Only applicable if you choose valet or an external provider. It takes two minutes and it's the only proof you'll have afterwards.

• Walk around the car and photograph all four sides, plus the roof and the wheels.
• Photograph the mileage and the fuel or charge level.
• Note any existing damage on the transfer form, even scratches that you consider insignificant.
• Check who is liable for damages. Some valet terms and conditions include a clause that limits or excludes liability.
• Keep the form and the photos until you have collected and inspected the car.

Check a provider

At the airport, you know who you're dealing with. With an external provider, that's not always the case. Three things are enough: how recent the last reviews are, whether the site is guarded and fenced off, and who is liable according to the terms and conditions if damage occurs.

When looking at reviews, first check the date. An average over several years hides what is happening this season, and those who take the trouble to report something are rarely a cross-section of all customers.

Peak weeks

The busy periods at the parking lots follow the Dutch school holidays: the Christmas holidays, the spring holidays, the May holidays, and especially the summer holidays from early July to late August. In those weeks, both waiting times and dynamic reservation rates increase. The fixed rates for arrival without a reservation do not move with them. That is the only advantage of driving up without booking.
