Useful Information and Tips about Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

General Airport Information

Amsterdam International Airport (Schiphol) is the main airport in the Netherlands and one of the world's leading hubs for international passenger traffic. Located around 21 km from the center of Amsterdam, it operates as a single-terminal complex.

Serving flights from across Europe and long-haul destinations worldwide, AMS hosts virtually all major airlines. Schiphol is designed to work as a highly connected airport city where everything is concentrated under one roof.

Terminals

Amsterdam Airport is built as one integrated terminal building. The airport is divided into multiple Departure Halls and Piers, and most areas are connected.

Piers H and M are not connected airside to the rest of the terminal in the same way, so depending on your flight, you may need to follow specific signage and allow extra time.

Hotels

Schiphol offers airport hotels located inside the terminal, ideal for early departures, late arrivals, short stays, or long layovers. Several hotels are within walking distance of the airport complex.

Staying in Amsterdam city center is also popular, since Schiphol is well connected to the city by fast rail and road links.

Parking

Amsterdam Airport provides a wide selection of parking solutions including short-stay parking for quick drop-offs, long-stay parking for extended trips, and premium services.

Parking options range from covered parking garages to open-air lots, as well as valet-style services and dedicated areas for passenger pick-up and drop-off.

Layover at the Airport

A layover at Schiphol can actually be a great part of your trip. The airport offers shopping, dining, relaxation spaces, and traveler services throughout the terminal.

Amsterdam city center is only about a 20-25 minute trip away under normal conditions. That makes it realistic to leave the airport, explore the Dutch capital for a few hours, and return in time for your next flight.
