Where to withdraw cash or exchange money at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, GWK Travelex locations and hours, and how to avoid high fees.
Cash machines are spread through Schiphol Plaza landside and the departure lounges airside, most of them operated by GWK Travelex alongside its exchange desks (checked September 2026). You can withdraw euros and, at some machines, foreign currency. The Netherlands is largely card-based, so most travellers need little or no cash.
Airside, the Lounge 1 and Lounge 3 desks open 06:00 to 22:00, Lounge 2 opens 06:00 to 21:00, the D-pier desk 06:00 to 20:00 and the G/H corridor desk 07:00 to 16:00 (checked September 2026). ATMs work around the clock.
You can order foreign currency online at gwktravelex.nl and collect it at the airport before or after security, and change leftover currency back to euros on return.
Airport exchange desks and their ATMs build in a wide margin, so withdraw only what you need for the first day. When the machine offers to convert to your home currency, decline it and choose to be charged in euros; your own bank's rate is almost always better. If you can, use a bank ATM in the city, marked Geldmaat, which charges no operator fee for foreign cards.
